Gravestone Range

9/10

On a remote prison planet where gravity shifts like weather, a retired frontier veterinarian must drive a herd of bio-engineered beasts across deadly anomaly zones to stop a mining empire from turning an entire settlement into a permanent gravity sink.

A highly cinematic blend of sci-fi western and disaster adventure with strong worldbuilding, clear stakes, and commercial appeal, though the alien-network reveal risks feeling slightly overstuffed.

Plot

Decades after Earth began exiling debtors and dissidents to the terraform-failed world of Meridian, isolated settlements survive by herding massive genetically engineered “ironhorns” whose organs stabilize the planet’s violent gravity fluctuations. Mara Vale, a widowed former livestock surgeon living in the canyon town of Rook’s Basin, wants nothing to do with the brutal frontier anymore until a corporate mining syndicate detonates a prototype gravity drill that wipes out a neighboring settlement and destabilizes the region. When Mara discovers the company plans to collapse the basin into an artificial high-gravity quarry, she reluctantly agrees to escort the last fertile ironhorn herd across the outlaw territories to an ancient atmospheric array capable of resetting the planet’s balance.

Mara joins forces with a magnetic-field gunslinger who can briefly alter bullet trajectories using salvaged tech implants, a teenage runaway born immune to gravity sickness, and a chain-gang of prisoners offered freedom in exchange for protection on the trail. As they cross floating mesas, inverted ravines, and ghost towns suspended upside down by anomaly storms, bounty hunters and corporate rail crawlers close in. The ironhorns begin behaving strangely, migrating toward hidden underground chambers left behind by Meridian’s vanished alien terraformers. Mara realizes the planet itself is reacting to the mining operation like a wounded organism, and the herd may be the key to communicating with it.

At the shattered remains of the atmospheric array, the syndicate unleashes its completed gravity engine, tearing entire mountains into the sky and trapping settlers in crushing fields of distorted time. Mara drives the herd directly into the storm, triggering a chain reaction through the ironhorns’ stabilizing organs that reawakens Meridian’s dormant planetary network. The world violently rebalances, destroying the gravity engine and swallowing the mining operation into a bottomless singularity canyon. In the aftermath, the surviving frontier settlements unite under a fragile new alliance, while Mara watches the ironhorns disappear into the glowing horizon, following gravity currents no human fully understands.

Poster Prompt

A cinematic sci-fi western poster featuring a rugged woman in her late 50s with sun-weathered skin, silver-braided hair, a long dustcoat lined with medical tools, and a futuristic revolver holstered at her side, standing beside a colossal bio-engineered horned creature with metallic veins glowing blue beneath its skin. Behind them stretches an alien desert of floating rock mesas, upside-down ghost towns, hovering rail lines, and violent gravity storms pulling debris into the sky. In the distance, a colossal gravity engine bends light like a black sun. Color palette of burnt orange, cobalt blue, deep black, and dusty gold. Harsh sunset lighting mixed with eerie neon gravitational distortions. Mood is epic, lonely, dangerous, and mythic. Visual style combines classic Sergio Leone western framing with large-scale hard sci-fi spectacle and atmospheric realism.
