In the crumbling port city of San Aurelio, the government enforces rolling nightly blackouts to conserve energy after a catastrophic grid failure. Publicly, the outages are random. Privately, they are controlled by a powerful criminal consortium known as The Parish, which uses the ninety-second windows of darkness to move contraband, erase evidence, and execute impossible robberies. Mateo Valez, a timid former church accountant framed for laundering cartel money, discovers the blackout schedules are hidden inside coded funeral records managed by the city’s mortuaries.

Desperate to clear his name and save his imprisoned sister, Mateo recruits an unlikely crew: a cemetery electrician who can reroute entire neighborhoods into darkness, a hearse driver with underworld connections, a blind lockpicker who memorizes buildings by touch, and a teenage obituary writer who secretly hacks municipal death records. On the night of the largest annual blackout festival, the crew infiltrates the flooded cathedral catacombs while rival criminal factions ignite chaos above ground. The heist spirals when Mateo uncovers a horrifying truth: The Parish has been engineering deadly hospital outages and apartment fires to increase dependence on its private power network. Betrayed by one of his own crew members seeking a payout, Mateo triggers a cascading blackout that plunges the entire city into darkness for the first time in decades. Using only candlelight and memorized routes through the crypts, the surviving crew steals the ledgers and broadcasts the conspiracy across emergency radio frequencies, exposing The Parish as dawn breaks over a powerless but finally awakened city.
