Elias Vale, once celebrated for guiding impossible expeditions, now survives by forging tourist maps in a decaying port city after a disastrous trek left half his crew psychologically ruined. When a dying surveyor delivers him a collection of contradictory maps showing the same growing “empty places” appearing across continents, Elias notices something horrifying: everyone who visits those regions forgets different pieces of themselves. Governments deny the phenomenon exists, but entire villages near the zones are quietly abandoning language, relationships, and even their own names.
