On the remote tourist island of Port Caffè, every object gains consciousness after being painted with a rare volcanic ink. The island’s annual election is usually a ceremonial affair between sentient streetlamps, gossiping fishing nets, and retired parade floats—until a spilled espresso awakens Moonbean, a jittery coffee bean with unlimited charisma and absolutely no impulse control. Through a ballot-counting error, Moonbean becomes mayor overnight, promising impossible upgrades like “more Mondays” and a giant catapult to the moon.
Mina, the island’s underpaid human translator, quickly realizes Moonbean’s popularity is spiraling into civic chaos. Buildings start voting, traffic cones form militant fan clubs, and the island’s ancient geothermal engine—mistaken by Moonbean for a “sky booster”—is accidentally activated during a wildly televised pep rally. As the island begins physically drifting across the ocean on volcanic steam, Mina teams up with a cynical accordion-playing lighthouse and a melodramatic pelican news anchor to regain control.
With Port Caffè hurtling toward an international shipping lane and Moonbean preparing a final “victory launch,” Mina discovers the frantic little mayor genuinely believes everyone deserves a bigger life than the tiny island allows. Instead of defeating him, she stages the world’s first floating festival, transforming the island’s runaway momentum into a celebration that attracts global visitors and saves the local economy. Moonbean resigns to become the island’s official mascot, though he immediately begins campaigning for “temporary moon governor.”
