When the ruthless Meridian Rail Company begins constructing a line through the crater, entire towns start aging overnight. Meridian’s enforcers wear brass chronometer gauntlets that let them weaponize stolen lifespan, turning gunfights into horrifying bursts of rapid decay. Silas reluctantly teams with Marisol Redd, a sharp-tongued telegraph operator whose younger brother was aged into old age in a single shootout. Together they uncover Meridian’s true plan: use the crater to create immortal industrial barons by siphoning decades from frontier communities. As Silas absorbs more time debt to protect innocent people, he begins suffering fractured visions from the lives he carries inside him.
The final confrontation erupts aboard a moving midnight train crossing the glowing crater rim during a solar eclipse. Silas overloads himself with the stolen years of an entire territory, transforming into a near-mythic figure flickering between ages and identities while battling Meridian’s founder, who has extended his life for over a century.
