On the eve of the festival, the revered choirmaster vanishes during rehearsal, leaving behind a half-finished hymn containing cryptic melodic irregularities that Clara realizes are deliberate clues.

As storms trap everyone inside the monastery complex, Clara reluctantly teams with Lucien, a charismatic novice with a forbidden talent for improvisation. Together they uncover decades of buried rivalries, stolen identities, and a hidden network of “countermelodies” secretly woven into public performances to pass coded messages between generations. Each musical number advances the investigation: jealous harmonies expose motives, ritual duets conceal accusations, and a terrifying candlelit fugue reveals that the choirmaster had discovered evidence tying the monastery’s founders to an unsolved massacre erased from local history.

During the climactic midnight procession across frozen cliffside bridges, Clara deciphers the final movement of the unfinished hymn and realizes the killer intends to stage another ritual death to preserve the monastery’s mythic purity. In front of the entire valley, she interrupts the sacred performance and transforms the closing anthem into a public indictment, forcing the murderer to reveal themselves by completing the missing refrain. The truth shatters the community’s traditions but liberates its people from generations of silence, while Clara finds redemption not by preserving songs exactly as they were, but by allowing them to finally tell the truth.
