Dead Drop Carnival

8/10

When a runaway stunt cyclist discovers a traveling carnival is secretly laundering stolen identities for international criminals, she infiltrates its death-defying acts to expose the operation before her own identity is erased and sold.

A stylish, high-concept action thriller with strong visual set pieces and commercial appeal, though its identity-erasure mythology risks becoming overly convoluted if not tightly grounded.

Plot

After surviving a disastrous underground bike race in São Paulo, street courier Luna Vale steals a passport from a dying smuggler and discovers it belongs to someone who technically never existed. The trail leads her to the Midnight Republic, a sprawling illegal carnival that crosses borders by train and disguises criminal transactions as live performances. Beneath its neon tents and gravity-defying stunt shows, wealthy fugitives buy entirely new identities created from trafficked biometric data and erased civilians.

Luna infiltrates the carnival as a motorcycle stunt performer, earning the trust of its charismatic owner, Silas Rourke, a former escape artist who built the operation into a moving black-market empire. As Luna digs deeper, she uncovers a brutal enforcement crew known as the Maskhands, acrobatic assassins who eliminate anyone marked for “replacement.” Hunted across rooftops, train cars, and collapsing carnival rigs, Luna teams with Elias, a disgraced border agent framed by the syndicate years earlier. Together they race to recover a ledger containing thousands of stolen lives before the carnival reaches its final destination: a private offshore auction.

During a massive performance staged above a flooded port city, Luna hijacks the carnival’s headline stunt in front of hundreds of spectators and broadcasts the identity network live while battling the Maskhands across swinging trapezes, burning catwalks, and speeding freight trains. Silas attempts to flee aboard the carnival locomotive with the biometric archive, forcing Luna into a final fight atop the moving train as fireworks explode over the harbor. She destroys the archive, exposing the buyers and freeing the victims from digital erasure, while the Midnight Republic burns into the sea.
