In 1878 along the collapsing Texas-Mexico frontier, Elias Mercer survives a silver-mine explosion that leaves liquid mercury permanently flowing beneath his skin, giving him the terrifying ability to liquefy and reshape metal with his bare hands. Haunted by the deaths caused when others tried to weaponize his gift, Elias hides as a humble gunsmith in the drought-stricken town of Salvation. But when a charismatic masked revival preacher known as Father Vale arrives, townsfolk begin displaying impossible abilities after receiving “sacrament bullets” forged from a mysterious glowing ore dug from sacred desert caves.
As railroad mercenaries, bounty hunters, and fanatical converts tear through nearby settlements, Elias discovers the bullets bond with human blood, granting powers fueled by rage, grief, and devotion. Father Vale plans to build an invincible army of believers and carve out a sovereign empire beyond government control. Forced back into violence, Elias teams with Marisol Rojas, a sharp-witted stagecoach robber whose body can absorb kinetic force after surviving one of Vale’s rituals. Together they ride through ghost towns, canyon cathedrals, and mobile tent revivals exposing the horrifying truth: Vale was once a battlefield medic who discovered the ore feeds on collective suffering and grows stronger with every act of righteous violence.
After Salvation becomes the site of a massive final revival attended by hundreds of armed followers, Elias refuses to win through slaughter. Instead, he melts the town’s weapons into a colossal mercury storm that traps the empowered zealots without killing them, while Marisol confronts Vale atop a burning bell tower. Elias ultimately seals the supernatural ore deep beneath the desert by permanently sacrificing his own altered body, becoming a living metallic tomb beneath the frontier.
