The Echo-Glass Exclusion

8/10

When an isolated orbital colony begins erasing its own citizens from existence, a disgraced xenophysicist must enter a forbidden “echo zone” where sound disobeys physics—and something inside is rewriting reality one vanished voice at a time.

Strikingly original sci‑fi horror concept with strong imagery and emotional stakes, though its commercial appeal may be slightly limited by its abstract metaphysics.

Plot

Dr. Mara Elling, once celebrated for her work on acoustic particle fields, is exiled to the remote orbital colony Helios‑9 after a catastrophic experiment shatters her career. When a miner disappears mid‑sentence inside a sealed maintenance tunnel—leaving only a vibrating trail of glass‑like residue—Mara is tasked to assist the investigation, desperate to redeem herself. She soon discovers an expanding region within the colony where sound bends, splits, and repeats like living memory, a phenomenon the authorities call an “echo‑glass exclusion zone.”

As disappearances increase, Mara joins forces with Lio Venn, a rogue structural cartographer who believes the zone is not a malfunction but a lifeform learning to communicate through reflected sound. Their exploration reveals layered, crystalline acoustics forming a labyrinth beneath Helios‑9—recording and rewriting fragments of human voices with alarming precision. The deeper they go, the more Mara’s own voice begins to fracture, creating dangerous doubles that lure colonists into the echo‑glass.

When the colony leadership plans to purge the station by detonating its core, Mara must enter the heart of the exclusion zone, confronting a shimmering entity that speaks in recursive versions of her past failures. She must decipher whether it seeks coexistence or replacement. In a final gambit, she harmonizes with the entity’s fractured frequency, stabilizing the zone and halting the erasures—at the cost of permanently binding her voice to the echo‑glass. Helios‑9 is saved, but Mara becomes its unseen guardian, heard only in the station’s haunting, protective resonance.

A lone woman—30s, sharp‑featured, dark braided hair, wearing a worn orbital jumpsuit—stands inside a dim, metallic corridor of a space station. Surrounding her: crystalline, translucent sound‑shards suspended in the air like frozen echoes, glowing with soft teal and violet light. Her breath fogs as the shards vibrate. In the background, the curvature of the orbital colony window shows a distant planet illuminated by a cold blue sunrise. High‑contrast lighting, with reflections fractured across the echo‑glass. Mood: tense, cerebral, atmospheric. Style: hard sci‑fi thriller with minimalist, high‑fidelity textures.
