Love & Larceny at Lockridge Hall

8/10

A reformed con artist and the detective who once arrested her reluctantly team up to solve a high‑stakes art heist—falling for each other as they uncover a web of lies hiding in a crumbling English estate.

A stylish and commercially appealing romance‑mystery with clear stakes and strong chemistry, though it leans on familiar genre tropes.

Plot

When Iris Calder, a brilliant former cat burglar trying to go straight, is hired to catalog the artworks of Lockridge Hall, she expects quiet days and dusty ledgers. Instead, she stumbles upon the aftermath of a daring midnight theft—and the unexpected arrival of Detective Rowan Hale, the rigid investigator who once put her behind bars. The estate’s eccentric heirs insist the crime was an inside job, and they want both Iris and Rowan gone.

As Rowan reluctantly accepts Iris as his best lead, their uneasy alliance deepens into a tense, magnetic partnership. Each heir seems to be hiding secret debts, illicit affairs, and motives tangled in the Hall’s fading grandeur. Iris’s old instincts resurface as she navigates trapdoors, hidden safes, and coded messages left by the thief—while Rowan battles growing feelings for the one woman he fears he can’t trust.

When Iris uncovers evidence pointing to a second, far more dangerous heist planned for the estate’s upcoming gala, the pair must risk their rekindling trust to pull off an elaborate sting. In the final showdown, Iris fakes a return to her criminal ways to draw out the real mastermind, forcing Rowan to choose between duty and faith in her. Together, they expose the culprit, recover the stolen art, and leave Lockridge Hall changed—no longer adversaries, but partners in both justice and love.
