The Heist That Wouldn’t Stay Stolen

8/10

When a fast-talking ex–parking attendant accidentally steals evidence from a crime boss, he and his by‑the‑book cousin must pull off increasingly ridiculous ‘reverse heists’ to put everything back before both the mob and the cops catch on.

A fun and original twist on the heist genre with strong commercial comedy potential, though its escalating chaos risks straining plot coherence.

Plot

Miles Cardenas, a motor‑mouthed former parking attendant turned petty scammer, attempts a low‑stakes car theft to impress his responsible cousin Lena, an aspiring accountant staying with him to “help him get his life together.” Instead, he accidentally drives off with the hidden cash ledger of a ruthless local crime boss—who happens to be surveilled by police that same night. Suddenly, Miles and Lena become the prime suspects in a case they didn’t mean to be part of.

As the mob and police forces tighten the noose, Miles insists they must “undo” the crime by sneaking the ledger back into the boss’s heavily guarded auto shop. Their failed attempts escalate into chaotic improvisations—a fake street‑cleaning crew, a disastrous karaoke distraction, and a mission involving an elderly neighborhood watch group with a passion for martial arts. Meanwhile, the mob believes a rival gang took the ledger, and the cops think Miles and Lena are criminal masterminds.

In the final showdown, Miles and Lena execute their most elaborate reverse heist yet: a meticulously timed car‑swap ballet during a neighborhood block party. Their plan spectacularly falls apart but accidentally exposes the crime boss’s money‑laundering operation to the police. Cleared of suspicion and hailed as accidental heroes, Miles finally admits he’s better at causing trouble than escaping it—while Lena realizes she might actually enjoy a little chaos now and then.

Poster Prompt

A vibrant, comedic crime‑caper poster featuring MILES, a wiry Latino man in his late 20s with a mischievous grin, holding a key fob like it’s a detonator; and LENA, a tidy, bespectacled woman in her early 30s with a clipboard and an exasperated expression. They stand in front of a retro auto shop surrounded by colorful string lights and confused mobsters in the background. A stolen ledger flies open mid‑air, pages fluttering. Warm neon reds, yellows, and blues. Lighting: playful, cinematic, slightly over‑the‑top. Style: high‑energy comedic crime adventure similar to early 2000s stylized caper posters.
