The Canoe That Shouldn’t Float

8/10

When a timid hardware-store clerk inherits a cursed canoe that refuses to sink, he’s dragged into a chaotic river-bound quest to return it—dodging criminals, cultists, and increasingly absurd rapids along the way.

A highly original and entertaining adventure-comedy with strong commercial potential, though its escalating absurdity could challenge plot coherence for some audiences.

Plot

Evan Pike, a soft‑spoken hardware-store clerk terrified of both confrontation and open water, unexpectedly inherits his late uncle’s dilapidated canoe—a vessel rumored to be “unsinkable” in the most literal sense. Once Evan learns the canoe is being hunted by a bizarre river-worshipping cult convinced it’s their sacred relic, he reluctantly flees downriver with Nora, a sarcastic wildlife photographer who sees the misadventure as her ticket to internet fame.

As Evan and Nora navigate increasingly ridiculous obstacles—hyper-territorial beavers, inept treasure hunters, and a grumpy tugboat captain with a vendetta—the canoe proves its magical stubbornness by surviving every disaster. Along the way, Evan discovers his uncle once stole the canoe from the cult, who now believe returning it will unlock a mythical “eternal current.” The pair must also deal with an eccentric gang of river pirates convinced the canoe hides buried gold.

In the chaotic finale, Evan and Nora steer the cursed canoe through a monstrous, storm-tossed gorge while both pirates and cultists give chase. At the river’s sacred spring, Evan finally chooses courage over fear, offering the canoe back—only for it to float away on its own, revealing it never belonged to anyone. With their pursuers swept aside, Evan and Nora emerge as unlikely folk heroes and decide their next adventure should skip anything involving water… probably.
